Approaches to Islam

This academic course explores the dynamic and complex relationship between Christians and Muslims. It highlights the different responses of Christians and Christianity to Islam and its adherents through a number of persons in history since the seventh century AD to the twentieth century.

The course explores nine approaches to Christian-to-Muslim relations by Christians viewed over the centuries including:

All approaches are discussed and pros and cons given, as well as the biblical foundations used for each. The aim is to discover which approach fits your personality and context. The approaches can coexist.

The aim is to enable the student to adopt an approach towards Muslims that is consistent with the Bible. This course is designed for people who already have basic knowledge of Islam. This course does not discuss what Muslims believe and what is in the Quran.

This course is suitable for theological educational institutions where it can be part of the curriculum. The course book is digital and will be made available to students during the course. There is also an exam available that can be taken for credits. The training can be given on location.

This course is also available online and can done individually or as a group. Every lesson is ready-made and is supported with videos with power points and assignments. The assignments after every lesson need to be submitted and checked before you can move on to the next lesson.

If you as a group or individual decide to follow it online, you can register via the Sharing lives training site Sharing Lives. The videos in the online course are English spoken with subtitles in several languages. You don’t necessarily need to buy the book for the online course.
