Writing

Writing is a way to put my thoughts into words. If I spend a long thinking about/working through a theme, I like to reproduce it somewhere. Connections that I have discovered and new insights that I have gained I like to share with others in this way.

The books I have written:

In this book I encourage the reader to make the search for wisdom his or her highest priority. Using the Bible book of Proverbs as a source of inspiration, I shed light on the essential basis of wisdom. In the book I also try to answer the question of how we can become wise and whether we become wiser as we get older and whether one can learn wisdom in school.

The reader learns about some important characteristics of a wise person. Different chapters discuss different specific ways in which wisdom manifests itself in a person's life, such as the way we handle money, develop friendships, and relate to our spouse. I point out that wisdom is more than speaking wise words or doing wise things, and it is a way of living in an intimate relationship with the Creator. This book encourages the reader to gain wisdom and grow to become a wiser person. Each chapter concludes with discussion questions to make the content applicable to one's personal life or use it in a group discussion.

The book consists of 12 chapters:

The book describes Jesus' dealings with the Pharisees. The Pharisees put a lot of emphasis on the law, which many Muslims also do. That is why there are parallels between Jesus’ relationship with the Pharisees and our relationship with religious Muslims.

The book consists of 10 chapters:

The book describes what we can learn from Jesus in dealing with Pharisees in our dealings with Muslims. It is often said that Jesus was very negative towards the Pharisees. This is not the whole truth. He was compassionate about them. In the book I zoom in on the conversations, the confrontations and biggest stumbling blocks. Also, I give examples of Pharisees in whose life God was at work, for example Gamaliel, Nicodemus and Paul The last chapter looks at Romans 10, where Paul states that Christ is the culmination of the law. This was true for the Jews of his day and is also true for the Muslims of our time.

Is a practical book that deals with the entire first letter of the Apostle Peter. Each verse of the entire book is covered. The book is written as a result of a Bible study that I gave in my church. It is suitable for use as a Bible study for personal use or in a group. Each chapter closes with discussion questions. It can be read individually or in a group.

The book consists of 10 chapters:

Finally, I have summarized the 1 Peter Letter:

By the electing love and grace of God, we live as precious children of God. As strangers on the earth where we know that following our Lord Jesus Christ injustice and suffering will be our portion on the way to the eternal glory of our Jesus Christ. And in the assurance that we will arrive safely because God's power is in us, He himself takes care of us and His spirit is upon us. This means we can be humble and full of hope in the fear of the Lord bless our fellow human beings and do good to them, no matter who they are and what they have done. In doing so, we hope that they will share in God's eternal and glorious future as we do.

The book is my dissertation on the main obstacles for Christians to come closer to Muslims. My conclusion was that attitude is the biggest obstacle. We have an idea about the other, usually colored negatively with prejudices and half-truths.

When attitude is the main obstacle the hinders Christians to share their lives with Muslims, I looked at which books/courses deal with this issue. I concluded that hardly any material addressed this particular problem from a biblical perspective. People need a new set of glasses to look at their Muslim neighbor. Because hardly anything was written about this, I developed the course Sharing Lives.

The book consists of 6 chapters:

The book is a preparation for the course Sharing Lives. I describe the development of the course and background of the course and why it was created. This book is suitable as a reference work or in preparation for taking the course Sharing Lives.

Based on Sharing lives, overcoming our fear of Islam I have answered my own question by writing a course: Sharing Lives.

The book consists of 6 chapters:

The main aim of the course is to make the participants think about their attitude towards Muslims in light of the Bible. It contains background information about Islam but the focus is on helping Christians come to terms with their own prejudices. To recognize these and then do something with them. And as a result to grow in their attitude of grace and love towards Muslims. Each lesson has specific assignments to apply what has been learned.

The book is a practical workbook and is part of the Sharing lives course. It can be read separately but it is recommended to not skip the questions, because you miss the essence of the book. The book has been translated into 11 languages. cursus Sharing Lives.

This book was my master's thesis. It is about using the bible book of Proverbs to acquaint Muslims with the message of Jesus. Using Proverbs in being a witness of Jesus.

The book consists of 6 chapters:

The extent to which Moroccan proverbs correspond with the Bible book has been examined. Proverbs are very important in this country. Some are virtually the same or completely the same. I also answer the question: if you only had the bible book of Proverbs, how would you explain the Christian message to Muslims? This is made concrete and explained using examples from other places in the world.
